From the very arrival, Progreso welcomes you with a colourful local market where you can buy local arts and crafts, blankets, various Mayan artifacts (almost all replicas), clothing, and much much more.

The beaches in Progreso are heavenly and the two islands are characterised by soft sand and pure water. Progreso is blessed with nice weather all year long and the atmosphere there is always warm and friendly.

This port is also a starting point for those who want to visit Uxmal and Chichen Itza, two most popular Mayan ruins. There one can explore unique ancient civilization and history, that Yukatan is very famous for.

Another important feature of Progreso is the local food which does not stop impressing with it's unique flavour as it can not be found anywhere else in Mexico. Explore the ruins of the lost Mayan City of Dzibilchaltun and discover the mystical Mayan world in one of the oldest and possibly one of the most populated Mayan cities found in the area of Yucatan.

Take a journey back in time and explore the city founded centuries before the Christian Era. Mysterious temples and buildings were used by Mayan people until the arrival of the Spaniards in the 16th century.

On boarding the bus, your guide will explain local customs, lifestyle and interesting facts about the surrounding area. Upon arrival at the archeological site, you will take a guided tour around this long forgotten city to discover some of its hidden secrets and mysteries. The most important structure is the Temple of the Seven Dolls, the outcome of incredible astronomical skills of the Mayans. Come experience the grace and antiquity of this fine colonial city and explore the sites around the main Plaza Zocalo, combined with time for shopping. Having razed the Mayan city of T´ho, the Spanish conquistador, Francisco de Montejo, salvaged the debris and quarried the local pyramids for stone to construct the new city of Merida. Modeled after the “Romanesque Style” of Merida, Spain, this new resurrected city was Christened “Merida” in 1542. A unique culture has evolved in this city from Mayan roots, Spanish colonialism and long isolation. This culture is reflected everywhere, from the magnificent character of its architecture, cuisine, public events and people. City´s principal museums, numerous public buildings, residencies, and parks are all within walking distance.

Highlights:
  • Casa Montejo: The founding fathers of Merida started construction of this house in 1549, which is an excellent example of Spanish colonial architecture
  • The Cathedral: Famous for the murals depicting the meeting between Montejo and the Mayan King Tutl Xiu. The construction of the beautiful cathedral began in 1561.
  • Governor´s Palace: View the beautiful murals by the Yucatecan artist Fernando Pacheco depicting Mayan social history.
  • The Montejo´s Boulevard: Inspired by the Champs Elisee this living architectural museum features mansions with French, Italian, Spanish influences

Experience the grace and antiquity of Merida and explore the mystery of Dzibichaltun, the oldest and most popular Mayan City of the Yucatan. After destroying the Mayan City of T´ho, the Spanish conquistador Francisco de Montejo built the city of Merida using local pyramids for stone to construct the new city. Merida was modeled similar to the city of the same name in Spain and the resurrected city was christened in 1542. Steeped in the of its Mayan roots, Spanish colonialism and long isolation, Merida´s unique culture is reflected everywhere from the magnificent character of its architecture to its cuisine, public events and people. The first portion of the tour will be spent viewing the Dzibichaltun Mayan ruins, founded in 2000 B.C., which archeologists consider the oldest Mayan ceremonial center in the Yucatan.

The most important structure is the Temple of the Seven Dolls where a phenomenon of sunlight can be seen during the Equinox. During this time, light beams shine through the windows to divide the interior. You will also visit Yucatan Dzonot, a popular underground river. The next stop will be the city of Merida and you will be able to experience its grace and antiquity. See the principal square of the city of Merida, a cathedral, numerous public buildings, residencies, museums and parks which are all within easy reach.

Horse-carriages ride along the tree-lined Paseo de Montejo Boulevard, where you can find various sidewalk cafes and grand restaurants. You can visit the Conqueror Montejo´s House, the Cathedral, the Montejo Boulevard, the residential areas, the old market (a perfect location for good shopping) and the main plaza. Finally you will go back to Progreso where you will have a comfort stop on the way back to the ship.

Sightseeing tour through Modern Havana, its main avenues, the university, Malecón seafront promenade and Revolution square with scheduled stops for taking photographs. Visit of the Romeo and Julieta Cigar Shop: their cigars have won gold medals world-wide for both taste and quality. Guided visit through the Rum Museum where you will learn about the history and the fabrication process of the famous Havana Club rums; the visit ends with a degustation cocktail in the museum's bar, in the style of the fifties. Visit to Finca Vigia, Ernest Hemingway's home in San Francisco de Paula, now transformed into a museum. On to Cojimar, a fishing village east of Havana, where Hemingway found the inspiration for the novel "The Old Man and The Sea", for which he earned the Nobel Price of Literature in 1954. Visit and cocktail degustation to "Las Terrazas de Cojimar" restaurant, dedicated to Hemingway's life and work. Tasting visit to "La Bodeguita Del Medio" and "El Floridita", famous for their classic cocktails, the Cuban mojitos and daiquiris. Return to the cruise terminal.

Visit to Cabaret Tropicana, which, since 1939, has been hosting the most astonishing shows with varied rhythms and Afro-Cuban dances, in a beautiful venue amid a tropical forest, under the stars. The show beings at 10.00PM and goes on for approximately 2 hours. The price of the excursion includes a welcome cocktail, a quarter of a bottle of Havana Club rum with a soda to mix, and an appetizer. Return to the cruise terminal by bus.
